The
city of Bergamo is situated in the centre of the Lombardy,
50 kilometres from Milan.
You can arrive in Bergamo by train or by car with the motorway
A4.
The airport of Orio al Serio, at 5 kilometres from the city,
is served by different domestic flights and international
flights and it’s connected to the city by a shuttle bus
service every few minutes.
From the station a bus leaves every 10 minutes (line 1),
which carries you at the inferior station of the funicular
railway. You can take it to reach Upper Bergamo.
Bergamo is divided in two parts: the Low City modern and
dynamic, and the Upper City, which is a real historical
and artistic jewel.
This city is recommended by the biggest international tour
operators that present you Bergamo as a fascinating discovery.
It’s one of the most interesting Italian cities and it combines
the talent of man with the beauties of the place. Bergamo
“City beautiful as few in the world “is the perfect combination
of culture and nature that characterizes the whole provincial
area.
The area offers the big variety of the natural environment,
with the mountains at one side and a wide plain at the other
side with the rivers and the lakes.
The diffusion of the typical products has known a big increase
in the last years, in particular thanks to the creation
of specific denominations which aim at protecting these
alimentary goods.
These agricultural produces tell us the area where they
come from; they are examples of the history and local culture.
Rediscover the typical products means rediscover the ancient
period, it’s like to plunge into the tradition of a village
to understand all its secrets.
The processing methods are the same of those used in the
past and the ingredients are genuine because they respect
the traditional recipes.
The area of Bergamo is located in the heart of The Lombardy
and it’s the link between two environments and cultures:
Padana plain and the Alps.
Wonderful natural sceneries alternate with ancient constructions
full of art and history.
From the Orobie, rivers and torrents flow marking valleys
which are as industrialized as ideal for tourist stay.
The hills of Bergamo are a wide green area of absolute environmental
interest. The territory is able to satisfy the demands both
of the tourist and the most exacting sportsmen.
The lands of the vineyards
The rocks of the hills of Bergamo developed in the Mesozoic
Era about 100 million years ago.
During the period of their formation, where now there are
the hills, in the past there was a wide maritime dock, and
the rocks are composed by deposited materials then joined
at the bottom of the dock.
The varieties of the lands influence very much the wine
production. We pass from deep and clayey lands as the lands
of the western of Bergamo which give more structured wines
with a colour more intense, to the eastern area (Grumello
and Scanzorosciate) characterized by drier lands so more
adapted for the production of aromatic and prestigious wines.
